The Fourth Lineage Throne Holder: Khangta Jigmed Kalzang


Khangta Jigmed Kalzang was born under the Lhatse Family Surname in the family unit of Khangta Tshang. At young age, he has perfectly completed both the learning of Tibetan language and the Four Foundations Practice. When he grew up, he became a trainer for the making of Torma. One day when the Lhatse Third Lineage Throne Holder Padma Dorje was performing the fire puja, the fire could not be set up. Khangta Jigmed Kalzang pointed his fingers towards the Fire Mandala, instantly the fire light up with great flame, thus the fire puja could be proceed smoothly. After this incidents, throughout his entire life, he always demonstrated his miraculous power as an auspicious sign.

At the age of thirty-six, he was officially enthroned as the fourth lineage throne holder. Later he went to Sichuan Omei Mountain for pilgrimage and the local Buddhist Lay Vows holders invited him to teach, so he also accepted many disciples in the local temple. After this he went to Beijing to transmit the teachings to the Qing Emperor and became the root guru of the Qing Emperor. He also went to Japan to teach tantra and had many Japanese disciples and enter into parinirvana while in Japan. According to legend, when he was in Japan, he translated and taught many tantra. As there were no written record, so we are not sure what was the state of tantra being propagated in Japan.
